Anyone here ever met a "patient advocate"?

I have heard of such people. They are even listed in the booklet of services my HMO provides (Kaiser Permanente). Last year, I was in bad shape, in and out of the hospital. No one seemed to be able to put me in touch with a patient advocate. The staff at the first hospital I was in kept telling me the patient advocate would come see me soon, but I was there 10 days and although I mentioned it daily, it never happened.

Later, after I got out of the hospital, I tried calling the number listed in the Kaiser pamphlet, but I got a recording that did not allow any message to be left. I have called all over their facilities, have asked doctors and nurses and receptionists; no one seems to know anything about it.

They weren't "there" so they couldn't help me with anything. Also, the problem was that I was in a hospital that was refusing to properly treat a serious infection. I really needed someone to talk to my doctors and get them to do something. Eventually, I did wind up in another hospital where they treated my infection and I recovered. But I have health problems now due to how much damage the untreated infection did.
