How has mental illness impacted you or the ones you care about?

Destroyed my life but hey you know there might be options for a college drop out who if you yell at her or threaten her shell turn into a frightened ball of goo. And then if the threat is bad enough turn suicidal and become so depressed she cant do anything. Im sure i still have a future..... not... (and before anyone comments telling me to grow up and stop whineing i suffer from ptsd that one of the triggers is threats [particually death threats] and yelling. I suffred and event where my step-father tried to kill me and police called it childs imagination so i got to live with him for another 6 years where he was mentally and emotionally abusive)

Took alot out of my life.
For a long time.

Made them worried and scared for me.
"zoning out" is sometime pretty serious and similar to Alziemers. That's how bad it was.

Let me get mental enough to share such a complicated issue with a robot first.

Well, it wrecked my career and has probably cost me over $1 million in lost opportunities at this point, and at least $100,000 directly. It nearly cost me my marriage and my life several times.
