I ask because an elderly neighbor asked me, but I didn't have an answer for her.😓

The City or State take care of a basic burial and "bill" your estate (if there's any Assets) and then attempt to distribute any remainder first the creditors and then to the nearest heir if possible.
Assets might be the home contents, a vehicle, jewelry, real property, bank accounts.
