How can I convince my mom to let me talk to my doctor about birth control?

The cramps I get are awful and prevent me from doing easy things, like unloading the dishwasher but she won't agree with me on it.

Talk to her. Sit down, come armed with some really good information, and remind her that this isn't about sex, but even still you're old enough to be careful.

Birth control has its benefits and its side effects, so it's a medical discussion you need to have with your doctor, but remind your mom that birth control also prevents STD's and pregnancy (never 100%). Sure, neither one of you wants to discuss sex and it's excruciatingly uncomfortable for some, but you need to impress upon her the fact that it's better to have birth control than it is to have a lifelong commitment in a child or a deadly disease.

Read up, get the info, talk to your mom like the adult you want to be recognized for and good luck.
