The crocodiles and most big bitey things are all up in the far north tropical area. Most of the Australia in the cooler areas is very safe. We don't even have bears or big cats. Yes the snakes and a few spider can kill but it's really hard to even find one, you'd have to go looking. The thing that kills most people especially tourists is when they swim in the ocean and get caught in rips. Even the sharks leave most people alone. The far south is much cooler too so if you don't like the heat, Tasmania is the greatest of our States. We also have some snow skiing resorts in winter. Our politics reflects the nation so both sides of government are quite similar with respect to left and right, no real extremes. So like we have a government funded national health system and both sides are fine with that. So most people here are on the same page politcically so when covid came along it was relatively easy to get people to follow the medical advice which is basically how we ended up with almost no cases. However we do have our lunatic fringe like the US does, but our population is about a tenth of the US so our crazies keep to themselves although the social media has given them friends and told them they're not alone, so i expect things to get worse here long term. Still, it's a great place to live or visit for a vacation.

Here's a 6 foot long tree lizard i saw the other day out running. Harmless but apparently larger than what most people expect lol

@SW-User Nice goanna. We don't usually get them that big around here, only and 3'-4'. There haven't been a lot of snakes about this summer, either. We didn't get our usual Christmas brown snake, very disappointed. The roos have started coming out a bit too, probably chasing a bit of green pick and water around the parks and cemeteries.

But gotta say, I love this country and its wildlife.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Bushranger We don't have bears????? Drop Bears!!
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Zeusdelight It's best to keep that quiet until the tourists get here. We need to feed them to the Drop Bears for our own safety.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Bushranger Hadn't thought of that - when we tried the Pollies they got crook as chooks!! (Aussie code to keep it secret:)
SW-User
@Bushranger Yeah i love Australia and the wildlife too, i feel very safe here.
Lots of the goanna's here are large.
On the dusty dirt tracks i see many snake trails but i rarely ever see one.
I think i see a brown snake once every 3 years and i'm out there every day.
This year there are many more roos than normal...

Bushranger · 70-79, M
@SW-User @Zeusdelight And don't forget the Bunyips in the billabongs and creeks.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Bushranger I have walked in the bush around Brissie for years and have only seen a Deer:) Make some noise and you are always safe!

@Zeusdelight
when we tried the Pollies they got crook as chooks!
Yeah, but you know that once you knock the BS out of a pollie there's not a lot left. The poor Drop Bears were starving to death.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Zeusdelight We normally see a few snakes every year. Most years we get one or two in the back yard on Christmas day, it's a bit of a tradition. Lots of roos and quite a few bunnies around here this year.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Bushranger You area sounds a good place to live.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Zeusdelight Sure is, in Spring and Autumn, but Summer and Winter are a bit hard to handle as I get older, lol. But not a lot of people, I'm on 5 acres with farmland behind me, so not neighbours real close. Just how I like it.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Bushranger Excellent - none of this getting old business by the way!!
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Zeusdelight Tell my aching old body that, lol.

How long have you been in the Brisbane area?
Mindful · 56-60, F
@SW-User Holy s***** I was ready to move until I saw that picture!!!! Our lizzards hardly reach the size of ones hands. I suppose if you runout food....
I can’t even think about it.
The tropics is my favorite, so is the ocean. But sure there are warmer safer beaches marked off?

You hit the nail on the head. The new style of automatically playing media based on what you read, or watch and make it automatically custiomize to your interests means that people will become consumed and isolated by either has or live in a filtered bubble of ignorance unto others. It is a form of gluttony. Mental fluting? It’s the easy way out of having to face real life’s challenges:arguing, fighting. I’m okay with it, but ... well it’s no different than COVID. IA civil war will take whomever it takes. It will be devastating. And the opposite: militia controlled... will and is leading to our countries downfall. Thanks to media moguls, peoples inability to think critically, and make healthy decision will breakdown of family, and continue to bring isolation,...I never thought I would say this in MY lifetime. If what the media plays is any semblance of what people are sucking up, it does not bode well for our Nation. If media does not go back to representing both sides of the truth just because it’s too hard fro employees to get along, imagine how hard it will be before no one in our country can see two sides of a story. Our countrymen have been pillaged by the privileged. And many people believe— let the dead fall where they may- and COVID is only a small part of that. Ignorance is another. Economic dispersing is another.. A few more, you can see from the outside better than those in our country. There is less simplicity to allow for clarity. In a way we have returned to the days when The colonists left a kingdom to form a new home. We aren’t their yet. but one certainly begins to wonder. Goodness I hate to sound paranoid. And I think to myself, where would I go? Mexico is at war over cartels. Canada is too close to US, and at times seems to side with whatever benefits them $. who is leading by caring for their citizens? UK seems to crowded. I don’t believe in communism. Language barriers in Asian communities. Great poverty and filth in India. Instability in the Middle East. Dictators rule in South America. Although there are peaceful paradises there. I guess. What can you tell me about economics of Australia?
SW-User
@Mindful I agree with your issues about which countries to move to. Also you're right regarding many people's inability to think critically. I think it's the single greatest issue plaguing the world at the moment and both covid and trumpism have put a spotlight on it. It's almost scary that you can listen to two people talk online, even on here, both with no formal education, one can make valid logical points based on facts and the other rambles on about magical spirits like we're all back in the dark ages and only one of those thought processes got us where we are today from a technology perspective. Without it we'd still be lighting our homes with candles and anaesthetic would be the sound of someone beating a drum.

I don't know that i'm really knowledgeable enough to give an insight into our countries economy other than provide a few basics such as we owed no money prior to the pandemic, now i think we've got a debt that'll take us a generation to pay off. This came about because the government spent billions during the last year paying those of us who'd lost their jobs welfare and also propping up businesses so they wouldn't go bankrupt. Now the lockdowns have ended the strategy is paying off as people can go back to work easily rather than have to look for new jobs, and many businesses can start back up. Still i do see a lot of small businesses going broke so there will be a negative economic effect from that but i think we'll bounce back quicker than many countries. It's interesting as we have a moderately conservative government who you could see really disliked spending the money to keep the economy going, but they did the right thing.

@SW-User mate, I have to disagree that snakes and spiders are hard to find, I see redbacks and white tails on a regular basis, nearly daily, and have had 4 snakes in the yard the past couple of months. But, I still wouldnt want to be anywhere else
@SW-User this is one.of the best concise description.of aus that I've read .

However you missed out the verbal abuse we throw at our friends -.ya bastard 😁💋
Mindful · 56-60, F
Thank you for sharing. I almost don’t care which country benefits, but I hope at least one country out there can figure this out, so each generation- we reprice a better version of ourselves.but also the opposite. Such is the rule/laws of physics. Equal and opposite. Is it wrong I want to be somewhere on the edge of social norms , but not too far out!? @SW-User lol it’s only natural. Hey don’t knock religeiin, faith in something g bigger—is real. Everything is bigger. It beyond us. So yes, people fill in the gaps... but the truth within someone’s faith, helps guide many who are lost. The rest get lost by their own interpretations. Education can and does fill that void. Science does propel us, but there is an inner will that can be tamed or inspired to be better. It is a spirit of life. With so many cultures, language, history it is only logical that it has many names. Like a wild child born to a family, there are wild ones out there. But spiritual education came before their was written and recorded education. It does transcend obstacles. Including intelligence and passions good and bad. God, love, hope, truth. Ideas and processes beyond our comprehension can be solved immediately by believing in something . I apologize for my many typos, typing fast and on iPhone.blurry vision at this time of day.

@Bushmanoz You're right, i guess i meant to stumble upon them accidentally and get bitten, which is what most people are afraid of. I think when i'm out running if i stomped around in the long grass for a while i'd be done for. This season i haven't seen any snakes out on the tracks but i've seen a surprising number on the highway. I do see many snake trails in the dirt so i know there's a stack out there. I recon if i was to walk around at night i'd be shocked at what i'd see.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@SW-User just a quick thanks for replying. Ttyl
Mindful · 56-60, F
@Bushranger okay... a brown Snake does not sound Christmasy

What does it do ? surprise people at Christmas because it’s in the Christmas tree?
SW-User
@Mindful Here's a baby one i came across on the road a while back. I thought it was a stick first as i ran up to it. Luckily it just looked at me lol

Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Mindful They usually just move through the backyard on their normal wanderings. Given that it happened a few years in a row, it started to become a bit of a tradition looking for the Christmas brown snake.

But, if you leave them alone, they're usually not a problem.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@Bushranger @SW-User I’d still squeal the first time. But i am the type that can get used to creators Especially if they can socially distance themselves 🙃
SW-User
@Mindful If only that snake was wearing a mask i would have been much more accepting of it's presence 😂
