What does it mean when your tongue feels like sandpaper and it burns?

I have seen 3 doctors and 2 dentists and they shrug. None of them has a clue. They tell me not to worry. I've had it for about 5 months. I got it at the same time I got an ear infection and had a tooth extraction. The ear infection got cleared up with an antibiotic and the extraction has healed OK.

Possibly permanent nerve damage from anesthesia used during the dental procedure? I'm not a doctor, or a dentist, but before my recent dental work a year ago, I had to sign a form that explained permanent nerve damage was a very, to almost non-existent possibility.
I wish you could find answers to what is happening, it could be something you ate or drank that is merely irritating your tongue.

I've had it for months. It includes swollen glands in my throat. It makes me tired, gives me headaches. It seems impossible to get a doctors to do a simple throat culture. The last doctor said it was "too complicated" to do it.

@greenmountaingal: I don't understand why they won't tell you anything. I'm sorry.

@ZenLioness719: Thanks. What gets me is they won't do a throat culture. That seems basic and simple to me. And they act like I'm just a neurotic old lady with a hopeless chronic condition seeking attention from busy doctors.

@greenmountaingal: perhaps it's time to find a new doctor. Possibly a Geriatric Specialist. They work specifically with older patients, and understand older people are human beings who deserve answers, just as any other patients do.

@ZenLioness719: Maybe. I have gone through 4 primary care physicians in about a year plus 3 ENT specialists. I have a new doctor now who did treat my ear infection and that helped. I think I will go back to her again and beg her to do a throat culture. If she won't do it, I might try a Geriatric specialist. But I was afraid if I put myself further into the label of "old lady" I will just get more of the same. Might be worth a try, though. I appreciate your help because I am totally alone most of the time with no one to talk to to help me figure this out.
