“But in other countries you have to wait for healthcare!” 😱

In the U.S. if you can just pay the whole thing out of pocket, no problem - they’ll take you right now.

Me, I have to pay $700 a month in premiums, a 40% copay, and spend $7500 of my own money on the deductible before my insurance will pay a dime. It will take me a lot longer than a year to save up $7500.

And I had better make sure the insurance company bean counters like the doctor and the hospital or facility, or they won’t pay. Oh, and the insurance company bean counters get to decide if I really need the treatment. After all, their bullshit MBA degree makes them more knowledgeable than people who went to medical school for six or eight years.

Thank god I’m pretty healthy — so far.

@SmartKat Re waiting for healthcare.. you don't have to wait if it's an emergency or you have something urgent (present COVID situ excepted) it's only if you want an operation, (especially if it's an elective operation) if it's an emergency you get operated on fast.
I had an op last year.. I saw doc in August, saw specialist in September, booked in for October but I wanted to delay it to fit in with writing a final assignment for my course.. The waiting lists vary greatly according to the operation/department

@SmartKat I have to assume thats America. The land of the health care ripoff.😷

@Adaydreambeliever Our Govt backed public system is quite similar to yours. But overlayed on that we can buy an insurance policy similar to the US system (though cheaper) to accept a private hospital and jump all the queues.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Same here - we can effectively top-up the system or get private healthcare which we can choose to use when we wish. In any event the NHS treats anyone who is sick and they don't have to pay.

@Adaydreambeliever That’s what I have heard - from people who actually live in countries with real healthcare systems. Urgent priorities are taken care of promptly.

I’d rather wait a little longer for an elective procedure, if it meant it didn’t cost as much.
