Hi, has anyone tried lexapro for depression/ anxiety before? If you did, did it work?

It worked very well for my wife.
Definitely helping keep me stable with both of those things atm.

Yes, I have.

And yes it works. I had a good experience with it. Few side effects, and it was effective for both, although I definitely fall on the more anxious side.

@SumKindaMunster I do not understand why my mother has to take this shit because she was doing fine with Xanax. I am upset because she was only given 90 tablets on the 25th of each month. That dose was suppose to last week of the month and for the following weeks until the 25th; and she had to take them 3xs a day. She told my mother that if she became more stressed for any reason, she may take an extra Xanax but the doctor would not supply her an extra Xanax to replace the one she had to take. The extra stress came from a death in the family, my dad died. Before he died we were told he was doing better than we heard he got worse. Then family issues followed after the death of my dad.

Instead of the doctor helping my mom she'll sit scold my mother like a parent is scolding a child. The last time my mom had a visit with the doctor, she told my mom that she was taking her down from .5 to .25.

I heard and understand that some people does well with Lexapro but when the patient is told about side effects and the doctor will have to eventually raise the dosage of this medicine for my mom pisses me off because she it is on her medicine allergy list, instead of it helping or improve anxiety it will cause it to enhance more. This medicine had been on her medicine allergy list for a long time and why didn't the doctor see this? To sum it up, Lexapro is just as bad as Xanax I do not see how its better.

Wouldn't this make you piss?

Worked for like a year. But I needed something stronger.

@LAlexV Thank you.they placed me on 20 mg but I havent taken it yet. Just wanted to know plus my Dr says it's only for 4 weeka
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Ladyofemotions Did they tell you why you were being placed on it for 4 weeks? A working therapeutic level isn't even typically reached for 6-8 weeks, so you couldn't even be sure it's working for you.

But yes, it can be very effective, when combined with cognitive beahavioral therapy.

No, it made me worse, I had to come off it
Ladyofemotions · 31-35, F
@SW-User thanks for this.

@Ladyofemotions I went from being somewhat depressed to being quite crazy, I started to take only a half a tablet and so on until I was off them.. Actually in a funny way, I felt more like my old self after a while.
Ladyofemotions · 31-35, F
@SW-User Okay. I might try it. I was given 20 mg by the pharmacy cause they ran out of my dose but I'm supposed intake 1/2 in morning and the rest in evening. I'm scared of taking which I why I asked
ChiyoSKL · 31-35, F
It made me mean, but then they found out I'm bipolar not just depressed
taLking5 · 51-55, F
My mom was taking Xanax since 2002 and now the doctor decided to start her on Lexapro, the worst part about it is that she is allergic to it, its on her allergy list. The doctor did not check to see if she is allergic or not.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@taLking5 It can be very effective at therapeuutic levels, but it will be most effective when used with talk therapy. Meds simply don't solve everything.

Keep in mind, medications like Lexapro may take up to six or eight weeks to reach a working level in a person, so don't give up out of the gate. Good luck.

Hi - I’m coming to the conclusion that nothing except a new life will make my depression go away.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
Yes. It worked for me.
Why are you depressed?

@SW-User ohh

My experience with it was that it worked for a time, and then stopped working. YMMV.
