I think the 'plan' is to do things by degree.

*Wash your hands regularly.
*Dispose of tissues properly.
*If you feel unwell, stay home.
*Avoid large gatherings of strangers....etc.

They'll give this a week or two and if numbers of sufferers is 'stable' that will probably be enough.

But they would probably have'Phase two' planned already if numbers of sick noticeably increase.

*Bans on attending sporting events
*Possible closure of public parks etc.
* Reduction in the school working week etc.

And then again, give it a couple of weeks. Assess numbers of 'new-ill' Then go to whatever the next stage might be.
@Picklebobble2 At what point do they declare martial law and ban all non-government media?

@LeopoldBloom I guess that depends on what happens when.
If the current advice fails badly and numbers increase dramatically, that may spread panic and so that particular 'strategy' would have to be moved forward earlier.

@Picklebobble2 In Australia most people who have got corona virus have recovered. The ones who die are ones who are elderly, or have pre-existing medical conditions. The virus will spread, but most people who get it will experience it as a cold or in worse cases a bad cough.

Washing hands is the number one thing. To do it thoroughly, the suggestion has been made to sing Happy Birthday twice when doing it. That will give people time to ensure their hands are thoroughly cleaned.

As an aside, I think the virus will cost Trump his presidency, given his effort so far.

@Zeusdelight A serious error on his part.
His flat refusal to ground all incoming aircraft/shipping as soon as it was known on 'economic' grounds.

The E:U the same.
As a result, all that could have been reasonably 'contained' is now a global mess.

Leaders trying to look 'in-charge' after they failed step 1 are likely to find re-election difficult if, as a result, significant numbers overwhelm healthcare and people start losing family members.
@Picklebobble2 If he had done that, people would have criticized him for over-reacting.

The real problem is that no one, not even Trump's supporters, have the slightest confidence that he can handle this crisis. Hence the prevalence of "don't worry, it's nothing more than the common cold" as their go-to response. The plan is to pretend that it's nothing more than a liberal plot to discredit Trump.

@LeopoldBloom He's hoping nobody in Congress or The Senate is going to get it then !
@Picklebobble2 Good luck with that. I noticed that a bunch of people in the Iranian parliament have it. Politicians are at higher risk than other professions.
