Is the corona virus such a big deal really, or just a distraction?

Okay, 900 people in China have died in the last few months. Last year 60,000 people died from influenza last year. Worldwide about 600,000. Corona is just filling up news hours.

Remember it isn't just about the number of people who've died, it's about the fatality rate. The flu kills more people, but also infects more people. The fatality rate for the flu is still lower than coronavirus. That said, the fatality rate of coronavirus is only about 2.3% right now, which isn't much (SARS had a fatality rate of almost 10%). The flu is usually more predictable--this is a new disease and it's spreading fairly quickly, which is freaking people out. But the rate of spread is also decreasing. I do not think it will end up being as big of a deal as people are making it out to be.
@SW-User I keep hearing that more people have already died from coronavirus than from SARS in China...

@SW-User I was just reading an article on Healthline, the mortality rate for the flu is 2.2 nationally. While China has a slightly lower rate, they don't count deaths from complications from influenza, only the flu, while US stats count those who die from other illnesses brought on by the flu.

You're a thinker. To reason this, think of the last things polluting the stream on China. Was it corrupted and a bad look that needed a new cover up?

What was it?

Answering these may tell the story

It's not that the coronavirus has killed more than the annual death toll of influenza. It's the rate of infection, the mortality rate, and the demographic for those infected.

Well, it may prove disastrous because the supply chain has been severely disrupted, and panicking people are starting to board supplies.
