Why are so many people afraid of Crossfit?

A few years ago I used to be really out of shape, and then I decided to join a local Crossfit gym to lose weight. I love Crossfit, it's so much fun. I just wanted to get an idea of why so many people are afraid of Crossfit?

@SW-User I understand where you're coming from. I just know that I personally need to exercise since I am no longer doing sports for school.

I have a herniated disk. I think that what they do is brutal to the spine. I have a friend who is all gung ho about it and wants me to go too but I will never!

Sweating like a pig and feeling dead. Not why I want to sweat.

I have a good friend that’s a physical therapist.
He said that CrossFit has been the best thing for his business, by far

@SW-User yea, if your gym instructor doesn't explain how to do the exercises properly, you can really injure yourself.

Can you remind me of what crossfit is? I am always looking for different ways to keep fit. I go running regularly which keeps me very fit.

@strictshorts Crossfit is a workout regimen where you do high intensity exercises over an hour long period. It generally consists of Olympic Weightlifting, interval training, pylometrics, calisthenics, gymnastics, and running. While it is very intense, it can be scaled to suit anyone's capabilities. For example I know people in my Crossfit gym who can't do running because they may have a bad knees or something like that, so they bike instead. When I first started I couldn't do a pull up so they had another similar exercise for me.

@Personnerdy6 Sounds good, but I would think that good quality instruction and variation according to ability is a must to keep people interested and also for safety.

Too many people who really ought to be starting slowly and easing into a workout regimen try high-intensity CrossFit and quickly become daunted. And then word spreads.
