How to deal with depression?

How to cope with it better, or make it go away all together? I feel sad for no reason sometimes and nothing seems to make me happy even when I try to fake it or do the stuff I love

Surround yourself with positive people and try not to isolate yourself. Ways to help depression depends on the severity. If it's extreme, that requires therapy and most likely medication. However, if you are like me, it takes a lot of practice and self discovery on what helps you during your times of sadness or emptiness. (Depression isn't always about feeling sad, sometimes it's not feeling anything at all). Personally I take deep breaths and tell myself that it will pass, because it always does. My depression swings in for a bit but I always come back up after a while and those are the moments I look forward to and hang on to to keep me pushing through ❤️

@Secretgal Yes my depression comes and goes, so rude hahaha it always barges in uninvited. It’s been about 7 years or dealing with it on and off and i wish it would disappear all the way:(

@Score16 definitely isn't the most polite XD well, there's really no telling on whether or not it will ever go away. But there are always ways to help manage or improve it. Have you ever gone to talk to a therapist? I have a host of issues lol (anxiety, depression, body dysmorphia, and eating disorders) but I went to a program called DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) they teach you what they call "skills", they're various coping mechanisms for alllll kinds of disorders. It really helped me a lot and I still use many of those skills I learned to help deal with all my stuff

I actually just read about what you think of therapy haha and money aside (cause I know that's probably #1, you don't have money or insurance well then therapy won't do) I would give it a chance. You do not have to take meds if you feel you don't need it or even want it. I didn't at all at first I was so against meds and still kinda am. It wasn't til like a year in I decided to try it. Nothing bad came out of it in fact it helped, but I actually am off now as I feel what I learned in therapy is enough to manage. I was also against therapy. I felt I "shouldn't need it" and that I should be strong enough to handle it, and that these ppl don't really care it's just their job. But I went. And it helped. A LOT. It felt really good talking to someone and letting someone kinda open my mind a little and help me see some deeper reasons as to why I have some of my problems and I'll tell you it's really interesting. I'd definitely encourage you to just give it a shot, you can always leave if you really hate it. It's better than doing nothing about your depression at all ❤️

@Secretgal i wish I could try therapy actually! I jsut can’t afford it:/ also I’m under my parents insurance I’d never want them to find out. I feel mainly my mom would give me a hard time about it. Meds I just won’t do, my body is terrible with meds idk why i had to take medication for terrible migraines and I ended up feeling so sick and nauseous AND the headache didn’t go away! I get very scared of medications that also alter your mood swings, I love myself as I am, I think I can just better my way of thinking and also take care of myself more physically and emotionally. It’s definitely hard to deal with but I’ve done it before, it’s easy to fall back in if you slack off on being positive. I’m glad you were able to find many benefits in therapy, I wish that was an option!:(

@Score16 hey ya never know, maybe in the future if this is still a struggle for you, maybe you'll have your own insurance by then ☺️ but hey it sounds like you have your answer! Keep working on positivety, start maybe doing things physical wise that helps keep you healthy if you aren't already doing it (believe it or not but simple lifestyle factors like your diet have big things to do with mental health) and I'm sure there's tons of advice on like YouTube too. Also I feel you on the meds thing, personally I don't trust them and I've seen too many ppl have complications from them as well, so I opt to deal with it myself as best as I can
