Maiya When I married my husband had an 18 month old Aussie (female) . By breed they are Leary of strangers and so I left her alone while we were dating. Once we married , and I lived there too. The dog and I interacted much more often. One morning I reached down to pet her and she bit me. Enraged I grabbed her by the neck and tossed her out in the back yard. I went into the garage and recovered my short wooden dowel rod that used to be in a closet and some heavy work gloves. I went back out side and the dog was ready to fight. I swung for the cheap seats and after 3 or 4 landed she started to understand but was still snappy so she got one more. I went in and got cleaned up and came back (wearing gloves ) with a leash and told her to come. she did to a point and then snarled so I grabbed her and pinned her face on the ground while sitting on her. she couldn't move and when she tried to bite , I twisted her ear until she yelped. I kept saying her name and telling her no. My husband was beside himself and was going to have her put down. I made him hush and then I let her up and asked her to come and she did, very sheepishly. I gave her a treat, said good girl and petted her. Then I put her leash on and took her to the vet. I had him keep her and give her a full work up and make sure she wasn't sick and certainly not seriously injured. She had an abscessed molar that never erupted. They treated that, gave her antibiotics and said she was bruised up but nothing serious. After a couple of days I tried with her again. I made her chicken and rice with broth...and she lapped it up. When she finished she was wagging her tail and came over to where I was sitting and sat next to me . I gave her a pat and we were best buddies from then on. Might seem cruel, but I was raised on a farm. Animals know better than to hurt you, and if they do they need to understand how big a mistake it is.
