Have you ever had an allergic or bad reaction to Catscan Contrast or MRI Contrast?

[c=#BF0080]Was it a developed allergy or the first time you had it? What did it feel like?

I “developed” an allergy to the contrast they use for my MRI’s(gadolinium) years ago. If I need contrast I have to be prepped w/prednisone for a couple of days and the scans have to be done in a hospital. I had severe tightness in my chest and couldn’t breathe, the nurse acted as if it was in my head but the Dr told me it was a developed allergy and the next time can be fatal w/out the steroid prep.

I had a reaction to the Catscan Contrast as well, but not a common one. The warmth they say you should feel throughout your body felt like fire burning throughout my entire body. I tried to see if anyone else had a reaction online and found two people, but like me it wasn’t understood by their Dr’s. [/c]

Sorry, no reaction here other than the pleasant warming sensation 😟

@Quizzical [c=#BF0080]Don’t be sorry, it’s better you had no reaction! They said to expect slight warmth for the Catscan, but it was severe burning and I was yelling get it out(the IV) and the idiot doing it told me I shouldn’t be burning as if it was made up. Similar to the other w/the MRI Contrast only the Dr knew it was an allergy. [/c]

@MellyMel22 You would think the technicians would be briefed about the possibility of this happening 🙄

@Quizzical [c=#BF0080]They should know and not chance continuing like both did. The first could’ve killed me based on her prob assuming it was a panic attack. I had more MRI’s w/contrast than I could count, I wasn’t nervous. She assumed my history of no issues meant I couldn’t have an allergy, but the Dr said it happens sometimes. They even sent me home when I went for the next saying I had to be medicated and in the hospital incase of an emergency. [/c]

@MellyMel22 Sounds like you had a lucky escape then. Problem is, some other poor bugger may not be as lucky 😒

@Quizzical [c=#BF0080]It’s a scary thought![/c]

@MellyMel22 It is... Especially as it can manifest out of the blue like that 😟

@Quizzical [c=#BF0080]Yep! They should have a plan at the imaging places incase that happens 😒[/c]

@MellyMel22 I totally agree... I suggest you right a letter to the hospital administrators explaining your concerns.

@Quizzical [c=#BF0080]Well it’s an imaging place, not the hospital. The hospital is where I go since the allergy started. But I think it’s a good idea to send one to the imaging place. [/c]
