51% of millennials have no romantic partner.

I heard on the radio this morning that 51% of millennials have no romantic partner.
WTF? Do you care to offer your ideas to explain?
Millennials: Born 1981-1996 (22-37 years old)

[I am suggesting that 51% sounds like a big number of people not in a committed relationship at an age when couples historically are building futures together.]

40 is the new 20?
Budwick · 70-79, M
@kayoshin That's one I hadn't thought of.
Does your idea hold water among friends your age?
kayoshin · 36-40, M
No, because I come from a country with different development state than the one I live in so I always felt 2 generations behind in thinking. The people my age here have the mentality of the teenagers back home :)). Monogamy is simply not supported so much by society and economic needs as it used to be. Being a single woman was a struggle and a shame. Being a single man was a shame even if it wasn't an economic struggle. These days the only thing to force you together is your own choice and that reflects In the numbers.

@kayoshin Does any of that bother you?
kayoshin · 36-40, M
Not at all. I think it might if I were single but right now it's filed under "their problem" :))

@kayoshin OK, so you do have a partner?
kayoshin · 36-40, M
Yep. It looks like I do.
