Is there any way to make my toenail thinner and look slightly back to normal after toenail removal?

I broke my toe last year, I didn't go to ER right way so they told me they couldn't drill a hole in the nail to allow the blood to drain because they said it was dry blood. I think they were wrong. After a post op shoe and budding my toes together swelling began to occur. It ended up being blood accumulating under the skin.
some of the blood was eventually released though an open cut on my foot.
fast forwarding to when they had to remove my toenail because the nail began to separate from the bed due to the blood.
When the new nail grew in, it grew back thicker and slightly discolored. Darn can of coconut water! (that's what broke my toe). Is there any way to make it thinner and make it look slightly back to normal?

File it down then buff it. Ive had that problem with a big toe, too.
