What should I do when my family doesn't support my health goals?
Six months ago, I wasn't feeling like I was living my best life, so instead of sulking about it, I decided to change it.
I began weight trining 3 days a week, doing cardio for one and eating a diet that consists mostly of meat, fruit, vegetables and nuts.
I have lost a lot of weight, gained a lot of muscles and I look and feel AMAZING! Everything about me mental has changed and I am in a good place My goal right now is to work towards building muscle and getting my body fat percentage to 10%
The problem is, my family are telling me they are "worried" about me. They are saying things like "'I'm not eating," even though I eat quite a lot. I just eat the right stuff. It bothers me because of how small minded people are. If you do anything against the norm, you are suddenly sick or different.
Eating disorders are a very real thing for a lot of people. But not every person who loses weight has an eating disorder.
I also dyed my hair red and decided not to wear fake tan anymore. Maybe that was just too much for some people.
I have attached a few photos so you can see my progress.
@ImplodingVoices Thank you. I knew that there was a touch of jealously in their words. I guess I thought that family was supposed to support each other. When I ACTUALLY had mental health issues in my teenage years, they were no where to be seen.
Perhaps explain your goal ONE time, then ignore any more commemts they make. I have the opposite problem with my family and people in general. I get told I'm too skinny despite being of normal weight...134, 5'3...i guess it's a soithern thing. Unless you're fat, you must be sick or 'trying to be skinny' as they say...
It's even worse when you are seen eating something healthy, as if humans aren't SUPPOSED to eat healthy food.
So i applaud you for making changes in your life. 👌
@iamnikki I'm sorry that you are also struggling to make your family understand your health decisions. I think that a lot of people here have hit the nail on the head; most of them are just jealous because they can't do or are too lazy to do what we have.
