Have any of you had neck/spinal surgery?

My husband goes in tomorrow, as he's been dealing with a pinched nerve and nerve pain for a few years. He's just wondering about how long he'll be in the hospital and how long it's going to take for recovery. I suspect it's different for everyone, but was thinking I could get some kind of idea from someone who has been through it.

Not sure. I didn't get the chance to go to see his doctor with him as I was working, but all he told me was that he had a severely pinched nerve. He's been having nerve pain for the last few years. When we went to our general doctor, he asked about raising the dosage on his Gabapentin. He's already on a pretty high dosage, three times a day, so our doctor was concerned and told him that he needed to see a specialist. He was sent to our neck & spinal clinic and was told that he needed surgery...now.

Thought I came back with a report.... His surgery went well, and was expected to be sent home the day after, but he made a wrong turn in bed and hurt himself and they kept him in for an extra night just to keep an eye on him. They had him on morphine & Norco. A friend of mine teased him that he did it on purpose just to spend more time with his nurses. He laughed, but it hurt to do so. So, he came home on Wednesday with three small holes in the front of his neck. Been in a lot of pain, but it gets a little better by the day, which is something they told me would happen. He is able to get out of bed (not without 'screaming' of course) and head downstairs for food. The first two nights, he couldn't eat. Tried two bites and that's it. He gave me a grocery list, including ice cream and oatmeal. He's been eating better, and starting to get up a little of his strength back. I am hoping that by Saturday, he'll be able to stay out of bed for more than half an hour. Been rough for him, as he's never been shut down like this before. He's always a go getter, and its' hard to just sit in one place for very long. Thank you TexChik & Peaches xoxo
