My wife has major major serious anxiety issues. Me less so. What's worked for her is:

- A good therapist. We had to shop around until we found someone who was a serious professional with proper therapeutic tips and not just there to listen.

- The right medication. This also took a while and we had some major hiccoughs.

- People around her/workplace learning how to understand and accommodate her anxiety. It can even be just litlte things like not surprising her, or walking behind her (she is uncomfortable with her back turned to people).

- Validation rather than dismissal of her issues. Making home a safe place and maximizing contact with people who 'get it' and minimizing contact with people who don't.

- We already had two dogs, but we got a third one who is a rescued who was abused. He's seriously made a HUGE difference to her quality of life and is basically a therapy dog even if that wasn't the reason we got him.
@CountScrofula Breathing techniques & other coping skills too.

@DarkHeaven Yeah, she's been using DBT methods to ground herself and get out of major anxiety spots which is a lot of breathing, focusing on immediate surroundings and whatnot. It's been very helpful too.
@CountScrofula I’d love to be able to meditate too. I know it would be helpful but because of my other issue. Full out meditation is almost painful. Suddenly I’m completely trapped in my own head. It’s absolutely terrible and terrifying.

@DarkHeaven Yeah, that's never really worked for my wife. It's about distraction and refocusing - getting out of your head rather than getting in to it.
