With dialysis and careful monitoring of their condition, I should think they could have a fairly normal life.

You only need one kidney to live. And as long as the one that is somewhat working you're in decent shape with medical attention to help keep an eye on it with dialysis and hope for a kidney transplant
@SW-User There is always hope.
I was brought to tears when I heard the mother saying that every day she gets to spend with her baby is a gift.
Good luck to your friend.

@Underconstruction every day above ground is a blessing
@SW-User Yes, that is her approach which I think is very wise , I don't think I would have been able to deal with that as graciously as she has.

I'd assume they'd need transplants to live a normal life. Until that, dialysis.
@dumpstermeow No, someone from work.

She had her baby last year.

@Underconstruction I hope they're doing okay. 😟
@dumpstermeow I met his mom. She's incredibly strong and has dealt with this blow with a positive attitude. She cherish every day she gets to spend with her baby.

Kidney transplants are common ...
@ozgirl512 Here hoping this kid can get a transplant.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@Underconstruction not everyone can, and I'm not trying to be negative, just realistic ...
@ozgirl512 That is true
One kidney works well? You said semi.....
@Underconstruction Aww....Well, I know babies are born survivors, so I hope he can get through a few months, until they get him a donor kidney. 🙏🙏
@Vivaci Yes, here hoping. I saw pics of the kid and he was smiling and adorable.
@Underconstruction They are stronger than us...and the best thing is they don't feel pain! God's little angels! He will be fine in no time...mark my words!! Amen...🙏

I think so.
@SW-User I heard a story about a baby born recently with that problem. He was in dialysis the first months.

Yep, knew a old guy that was old enough to be retired and was in the military. He never knew he only had one until he was scanned for cancer
@Virgo79 Really ? That's incredible !!!

One semi working?.... probably can but will live a restricted life when it comes to food n drink
@Tminus6453 Yes, it is not fully developed. The mother didn't have amniotic fluid and he was born premature.
If it’s working well yeah I think so.
