How am I meant to handle this?

Am 32, healthy all my life, then in October last year, I developed 3 weeks of diarrhoea, soiling myself many times both in public and at home, a few days of heavy bleeding and nausea as well as night time bathroom trips.. Little did I know that was my first IBD flare. It went away for a few weeks then I started getting some bleeding again followed by another month of diarrhoea. I had a faceal calprotectin test which measures inflammation in the bowel and it is meant to be under 50, mine was over 3,000. During my third flare up in February this year, I had a colonoscopy and the doctor said my whole colon was inflammed which means severe ulcerative colitis. I am on meds now but still getting an aching and sore stomach. I worry that as soon as I stop the steroids, all the other horrible symptoms such as diarrhoea, urgency and bleeding will come back. I feel so depressed. Can I really ever be painfree or is this my life now? :(

I'm really sorry to hear this. It's painful and humiliating. I have a friend whose wife has severe IBS. I hope you can regulate or even heal over time. Best wishes.
