Is a bad period a valid sick leave excuse?

Literally been taken ibuprofen & paracetamol for it.
It's heavy. Changing every couple of hours.
I'm mentally and physically wiped out.
I don't usually get then like this and as you guys know I've spent the weekend feeling pretty low borderline suicidal.

@Selah i've never had to call in for this before. They're usually not like this, I'm more embarrassed than anything as I would hate to be regarded as "being a typical woman" or something.

@Peppa typical women have periods. Take a day off. Thats really sad you feel that way.

@Selah I work in healthcare and with a female boss. It's the least sympathetic industry they'd likely say, pop a pill and suck it up. Nature of the job means I'm on the go none stop. I can't face the embarrassment of leaking on top of this pain.
I literally feel like I've just had an iud fitted. It's so bad.

And if I can let them know by 12 if I'm able to return tomorrow.
