DIM; diindolylmethane.

@SW-User Is that prescription?
SW-User
[@gabby] nope. it's OTC and Amazon has some excellent prices, as apposed to your local health food store, but it can be found there too. i use Nature's Plus DIM, but there are other brands.
you will love it.

@SW-User What does it do, if I may ask?
SW-User
@antisocialbutterfly it prompts the liver to metabolize estrogen into it's more desirable metabolites, essentially. it balances the major sex hormones via a number of cascading effects. it's big science, but the component is derived from cruciferous vegetables (broccoli and the sort), via the indole-3-carbinol that's naturally in them, and this resulting DIM is immediately available and you will feel the effects, both physically and emotionally, within hours, and even more so over days, and then your hormone problems will be a thing of the past as the weeks go by.

you should be able to find a good article/blog on it's effects quite easily. also read some reviews on Amazon. it's worth your time to research. it's good stuff. protects against certain cancers too.

should I consult my doctor about this?
SW-User
@antisocialbutterfly you could, yes. and if you are pregnant, or on other medications, you might want to.

there is an article on WebMD about it, and that site gives any contraindications for any drug or supplement they list. if you are pregnant or on other prescription medications, look there first, and yes, do talk to your doctor if you feel it's prudent in your case.

well I am on other medications for pcos and hypothyroidism...but my mom insists on sitting in on my doctor's visits...so it would be difficult to ask
SW-User
@antisocialbutterfly just ask. i'm sure your doctor can advise you. maybe your mom will learn something too. it's not like your asking for a medical marijuana card. ;)

My mom doesn't believe that I have any emotional or mood problems...
SW-User
@antisocialbutterfly just say it's for the cysts/discomfort. don't mention emotions.
SW-User
@antisocialbutterfly it's a food supplement. your doc will either say it's fine or not. it's not a drug, but i would make sure it's okayed, since you have thyroid issues and other meds.

@antisocialbutterfly good luck and best wishes!!! :)
