Has anyone been diagnosed with Bipolar Mood Disorder?

How were you diagnosed? What were the signs that you saw within yourself?

I am going through professional re-diagnosis of my "depression" after years of manic and depressive episodes with faulty treatment. Long story short, my old physician is a twat and always misdiagnosed or mistreated me with awful medications.

I would love to hear other's experiences. I want to feel normalized in this process, whatever that is. 😳

Well, like you, at first I received a faulty diagnosis. I had told my PCP about the depression symptoms I was having. She referred me to a psychiatrist who put me on an antidepressant that worked really well. But, no one had recognized the other side of my symptoms, including me. So, what happens when you put someone with bipolar disorder on JUST an antidepressant? It elevates their mood until they have an extreme mania episode, which happened to me. I ultimately ended up in the hospital under the care of a different doctor, one who recognized that I'd just had an episode of hypomania, and prescribed me a mood stabilizer for what he diagnosed as bipolar disorder. It took me several mood stabilizers (as well as the antidepressant I was already taking), to find one that worked, but now I feel more like me without all the ups and downs.
