What's the point of an emergency room if you have to wait for 2-3 hours?

you didn't say what was wrong with you that you were in the emergency room, it would be assumed to be something that was an actual emergency and not an inconvenience. (something like broken bones or lacerations)

Are you saying that it took 2-3 hours for them to triage you? Or that you had to wait for 2-3 hours for the doctor to treat you for your condition? If it is the prior then there is a problem, if it is the latter then it would depend on what you were there to be treated for. 2-3 hours to be treated for a heart attack sounds pretty life threatening. 2-3 hours for a broken leg is just painful, but is very unlikely to kill you.

Add on top of that the people who go to the ER because they didn't realize that their having a cold is not really an emergency, it clogs up the whole system.
