is 26 inch (67 cm) waist too big?

My mom's telling me that i need to diet so i get thinner. at least until i get down to 60 cm (23.5 inches). apparently she was a skinnier than that in her teens and says i should be too or it's embarrassing. i don't know if i should trust her or myself. any help?
