It's Okay To Be Human
How many times have we been made to feel like it's shameful to cry, or in doing so, it is a sign of weakness?
Since when, is it not okay to be human? In fact, that 's just one of the many reasons Jesus came to earth. He wanted us to know that by being human himself, he fully understands each of our emotions. After all, we came with them and they are there for good reason. There's nothing shameful about them. It's rather a shame, that society has made us feel we must suppress them. In fact, it feels good to just let it all out.
The past is not our shame. It is only our teacher.
Who deliberately sets out to miss the path? You did no wrong. Your choice was just not the best, that's all, and why? Only because you didn't realize the better choice at the time. When you know better, you definitely do better, and make wiser choices. That does not call for beating yourself up, every time you made an unwise decision, and that's all it was. Don't make it bigger than it is.
I Appreciate God's Tool Box
Do you realize God gave you a toolbox for navigating your life? What a great gift! How long since you peeked inside?
I see a flash light. It represents the way God's Word lights our dark path when we're scared, lonely, confused, anxious, sad, feeling lost, or like nobody cares or loves us. Whatever our need. Jesus cares about you and loves you with all his heart, and he always will. He'll never abandon you. He proved his love for you, on the cross. So that through Him, you can have a brand new life and new start in life.
Then there's a hammer. Not for beating ourselves over the head with, for every poor decision we've made, as our past is not our bitter foe; it is our caring friend, to help remind us not to repeat the same thing that got us into trouble, the first time! That it's time to make a U-turn and get on the right path.
I also see a can of oil for making old, rusty tools, work like new again. It reminds me how God has turned the ashes of my life, into a thing of beauty, by allowing the flow of my tears, to heal my heart, my past, and my spirit once again. How refreshing that feels. Like a fresh fallen rain on a beautiful, hot summer day.
There's the bottle of glue. It reminds me of the time, God took the broken pieces of my life, and glued me back together again. They're not perfect, but they weren't meant to be. The scars are a beautiful reminder that though I don't always choose wisely, God cares about me and loves me anyway, just the same as He always did. They also remind me of all He has brought me through and the valuable lessons I learned from it all. I'm very grateful for that, as without all the bumps and holes in the road, I would have never forced myself out of my comfort zone. I would have never developed a passion for life, an appreciation for it, nor learned as much as I did.
And finally, I see a map... the best tool of all. A reminder of the most glorious gift God gave us, called the Word of God. It supplies our every need in life, is our lifeline for every breathe we take, and was meant to be our roadmap for life. It points us to a loving God, who gave us the gift of tears, to wash away and heal our wounds, receive forgiveness for ourselves and others, and wake refreshed and renewed. God knows, and has seen every teardrop you've cried. It was for those tears He died, so He could give you a new and better life. It's there for the taking, when you bring Him your every burden, as He has invited us to do just that...for full healing.
He never wants us to feel like we're walking alone, when all along, He has been patiently waiting to lift your burden from you and replace it with peace and joy in your life.
"Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning."
That's the joy, Jesus wants you to have and receive. It is only when we acknowledge our painful past, that we are able to address it and finally allow God to heal it. God's Word is a fountain of life for our soul, that never will run dry.
There's always room at the cross, for one more.
