Do you have an older confidante, mentor or friend?

Do you have someone in your life who is much older than you and can give you objective life advice? For me it was an uncle when I was about 18 to 23 because my father died when I was 17. I’ve sometimes asked family friends for advice. I know that family members such as parents and extended family - aunt uncle or grandparents. We often find a mentor in the workplace someone we admire as a role model who can give us advice.
I think it’s important that we have the confidence to initiate conversations with these people and humbly ask for their advice and opinions.
Now that I am in that older age group i appreciate young people asking me for advice and talking about their life

Great post.

I've had a few who I let slip away after we went in different directions. In hindsight I can kick myself for not keeping a connection. One was a schoolmate, a few years older from the age of 8 or 9, through high school. He lived a few blocks away and walked to and from school for years. He was like the beacon that alerted me to what was ahead when I'd get a year or a couple of years older. He graduated a few years before me and moved on and the relationship just ended there. Another was a workmate in an industry that I knew very little about. He was a seasoned insider. We split apart after we were all laid off a few years later when the sank into serious financial holes. In both cases we were like twins in spirit. Both now deceased. Maybe we'll meet again in heaven some day and they can show me around.
