Has anyone taken Niacin (flush) to improve cholesterol?

Did it work ?

🙂

High doses of niacin available via prescription can cause:
• Severe skin flushing combined with dizziness
• Rapid heartbeat
• Itching
• Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
• Gout
• Liver damage
• Diabetes

Just a caution. Niacin is a B vitamin and is a recognized part of a healthy heart treatment, but it shouldn't be done without professional supervision. The great American mantra of "If one is good, five are better" doesn't really hold up in medicine.

Good luck and let us know how the results turn out.

The answer is maybe. It's been shown to lower triglycerides and raise HDL (good cholesterol)....no evidence of lowering bad cholesterol.....but it will make you turn red....

I tried it for a while but it make my skin read and itchy so I had to go the drug route.

@Pretzel Which one did they put you on? 🙂
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@dontbekoi atorvastatin
I haven't noticed any side effects from it

Niacin does work, but many can’t tolerate the side effects. Usually a statin is the medication of choice nowadays.

The niaicn works well..the flushing and itchiness sucks but I did it for 3 months and drastically lowered my cholesterol.

I did it and it sure does..

Fabulous!

Could you tell me how much you took, please? I just started with 500 mg and the flush is wild 😊

Thank you

No.....I am taking Niaspan to control my cholesterol with no good results. Best way for me is through aerobic exercise and diet.
