I couldn't finish watching that . It makes me uneasy. I took care of someone in one of those places and whatever she wanted I got for her.
Those places are nothing but the ante sala of death.

@CurrentName Oh yeah understandable, I took care of my grandma at the house during her hospice time when she was diagnosed with Parkinsons and then one day just shut down. It will likely live with me but I'm glad I was there for her. I do know where you're coming from.

Yeah...completely ridiculous and SHORT-sighted. When I worked at a nursing home, we had a man who could NOT have hot cocoa...because it gave him diarrhea. When the nurses knew he was dying, they gave him the hot cocoa anyway...because it made him so happy!

@4meAndyou The idea that there's someone dying and the only thing that brings the comfort someone is denying it because they have that view is sad. It's not even just the hospice nurses either, it's likely relatives too. I mean not every family gets along so they may even be denied and stuff. I think it falls under abuse in a way even not just elderly but anyone in hospice who is dying should be allowed.
I understand that nurses have codes of ethics. If they violate those they may find themselves unable to practice.

It does get infuriating sometimes. When my brother was dying (in the hospital) of diabetes complications, I asked if there was anything I could bring him. He asked for a strawberry milkshake. The nurse caught me carrying it in and refused to allow it. I just carried it out obediently and poured it into a tall mug, which she didn’t question.

He died two days later.

@Mamapolo2016 Wowwwww I'm really sorry to hear that but I assume he did drink it in that mug? I'm sorry about your brother passing but I'm happy he got to have that one milkshake. It likely meant a lot to him. I get about nurses losing their license to practice if caught but I feel like we need different laws or give nurses the power to make exceptions in hospice situations in the hospital setting (within reason.)

Our medical system is so messed up anyways.
@marrowengine Yes, he drank his milkshake. I will always be glad for that.

The medical system has lost its heart. And all good sense. I have a few fine doctors, but they are a breed heading for extinction.

Between lawyers and corporate-controlled hospitals, it’s a sad state.

My point at the time was that my brother’s organs were failing, he was conscious for short periods, but no doctors said, “Maybe if we try THIS…” They said, “Maybe a couple of days,. Maybe today.”

So what was the point of denying him the only pleasure available? None. NOT drinking the milkshake was not going to buy him more time. The damage was done.
