I hate the sound of my voice. Almost everyone hates their own voice but…

I know almost everyone hates the sound of their own voice but for me it’s more than that. I’ve been told I sound masculine and I know my voice is pretty monotone too. it’s hard for me to sound enthusiastic or animated. Also i wouldn’t say I have a stuttering problem but I certainly don’t speak as smoothly as most other people. I get really anxious speaking to anyone and I end up tripping on my words even though I try not to, even when I’m not saying much at all - just casual conversation.

This week I was supposed to take part in a presentation and I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. Can anyone else relate? Is there something wrong with me? I never used to be like this

I'm sorry to hear that you feel this way. From the sounds of things your voice is probably quite unique and in all honesty that in itself is something you can really working on making more of.

This may sound extreme but if you really want to improve it you could try some elocution lessons, maybe a local drama class or even singing classes or a choir.

They all help with breathing, working on developing the skills around articulation, tone, pace and expression.

If you really feel this is a major issue or would prefer it in a more private and contained environment, speech and language therapy.

Good luck.

But honestly sometimes this can be link to anxiety and confidence too.
If you can work on that you may find that you start to sound better, simply because you feel better.
