I think I'm going to stop reading my messages today.

So I sent my doctor a message asking if he thought meal replacement drinks would help me right now.

He replied why do you feel you need them

I replied well I feel like my eating disorder is getting out of control again and they might help me.

His reply you have an eating disorder

I've been seeing you for a year, you put me in the hospital for it last year.

His reply son honestly you have some many issues I can't remember all them. Sure give it a try can't hurt anything

So it might be time for yet another doctor

you sent your doctor a message? thats like an amazing thing. most doctors wont acknowledge you without an appt.

@Penny I use my patient portal and yes the message go to the doctor. It takes a while to answer sometimes but it can save a phone call or an appointment

@Cigarguy101 i wouldnt write him off because he forgot you had an eating disorder. He must have so many patients to keep track of. Unless you think hes doing a bad job of course.

@Penny I don't agree, this is a huge issue for me and like I said I was in the hospital because of this last year. He should have reviewed my chart before even responding to my question.

@Cigarguy101 honestly i think youre expecting way too much from him. its not like youre his only patient. i mean, even seeking approval from your doctor to drink a protein shake? wasting his time.

@Penny no again I disagree. He took the time to respond to my medical question. It wasn't like I sent him a funny email. This was in my patient portal and it was a health related question. Again he should have reviewed my chart before answering me. And because of my history with my eating disorder I felt it was important to ask what he thought. I wasn't wasting his time, I asked a question on my portal and he opened it and answered it.

@Cigarguy101 well, i wouldnt dream of asking my doctor something like that in a message. maybe ask him for a referral to a nurtritionist during your next appt? the way i see it doctors are for diagnosing you and prescribing medicine, thats it. do you have a therapist?
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@Penny again he was the one that put me in the hospital for my eating disorder. He was the one that helped me with my treatment plan when I go out. If they didn't want you to ask questions in the portal it wouldn't be available. So to me made since to send him a message that way. He could read it respond or tell me to come in for an appointment. Or he could of not answered it at all and sent it to a nurse. But no he choose to answer it. You outlook on doctor is sad. And yes I have a therapist. Not sure why that matters right now.

@Cigarguy101 therapist suggestion is because you sound emotionally needy, not what a MD wants to have to deal with. just expressing the way i see it from my point of view not trying to offend you at all. youre question to your doctor is perfectly valid just the way my doctors office is you need an appointment for discussions.

@Penny well we'll just agree to disagree on this. Enjoy your night

@Cigarguy101 ty. you too, and well im not a doctor and i dont know your situation but if youre not eating well i think meal replacement shakes are a great idea. (but watch out for ones with sucralose in them. sucralose gives me leaky gut)
