Has anyone had experience with an older cat that has bouts of *something* that causes him difficulty walking on his hind leg or both?

When I initially researched it I saw cardiovascular disease and blood clot could be the culprit if a cat suddenly can't move his hind leg. After observing it more, I see it's not so much that he can't move it (like a blood clot might cause). He seems to be in pain when it touches the floor (puts weight on it). It reminds me of how I reacted to the pain of spraining my ankle or something along those lines. It definitely seems like pain vs a blood clot. Google said neurological disorders can cause it, too. The only arthritis that I've found that seems to relate is rheumatoid arthritis, perhaps. I don't know though.

Last night I almost thought something had bitten him. He immediately jumped up like he would if a flea had bitten him. Then, he turned around to lie on his other side. That hurt him within seconds, and he got up and ran in between my feet. When he hides under my feet I know he's in fear...I'm thinking he feels vulnerable, because he can't run, if he chooses.

I put his *main* water dish on the floor just in case it is arthritis.

I really don't know how much that helped. He seems to be walking ok today.

I think by looking at him... it could be like a sporadic zapping pain.

My brother went through this for awhile. He went to the doctor, and they couldn't find anything. He got better though.

The way that it seemed to happen so sudden (like ZAP!) makes me think it's not arthritis.

I know he's older. I understand this. But, I want to know why he feels bad.

My brother says, "Well, he's older."

I get that. But, if there is something that is causing it that I can control, I'd like to know.

Not a cat, my dog if he eats chicken, it affects his back leg, he’s had to stay in the vets once it was that bad, in his early years, took me a while to figure it out, now he’s fine.
