The APA has an excellent article outlining how different systems are affected:
https://www.apa.org/topics/stress/body
There is no body system left unaffected by stress. And as body systems overlap and depend on each other to function well, this can have devastating effect.
Stress is a physiological response to perceived danger. It's part of the fight or flight mechanism. If your mind thinks you're under attack or threat most of the day, it will keep your body at attention in case of attack. Stand in a half crouch for as long as you possibly can. Then, after your thighs have started shaking and your back is getting sore and you think you're going to do real damage, relax into the nearest chair. That's the difference between living under stress and living relaxed.
