12 is very dysfunctional..,u should be able to hold ur breath at least 40 seconds...anything below 20 is dysfunctional. U need to reset ur brain’s tolerance for CO2. Do half breaths: half breaths in and half breaths out. Take 5-10 of these breaths. U may feel a strong desire to take a deep breath, and u can release any time. Build on half breaths for one minute, then 2, and 3. Air hunger breathing should be baseline practice for anyone w severe dysfunctional breathing. When u mastered that, u could move on to intermittent hypoxic breathing exercises. I’ve done all that w good results.@Wiseacre
