Did you know this could happen?

I'm at work and get a call from home that there was an explosion somewhere in the house. It turns out that a can of shaving cream burst, spraying its contents around the bathroom and propelling itself through a light fixture. I normally use an electric razor, and only use a manual one every few weeks when I'm too lazy and go too many days without shaving for the electric one to handle it. Apparently, over time, the bottom edge of the can rusted to the point that it couldn't contain the pressure and blew out. So lesson learned, keep an eye on old pressurized cans and toss them when they start to rust.

It looks like the contents escaped so rapidly that the pressure in the can dropped to the point that the side caved in.

When I was reading the Amityville Horror as a too-young child, a can of tomato paste burst in our pantry, leaving red spattered walls everywhere. I thought I'd come home to the devil. Gases are a volatile thing.

Changed my life forever.
@Graylight ...and your underwear right then. 😉🤣

@SomeMichGuy If I'm honest, probably. I think I kept the light on for two years after that.
@Graylight Of course. A well-written horror book gets under one's skin!

Something similar happened to my son, who was taking a shower and burst out of the bathroom in a towel yelling that "something is coming out of the wall!" It was a can of shaving cream much like this one leaking its contents slowly from the shower wall.

I've heard of it happening, and that would be alarming and not even a little bit 'funny' at the time.
Thanks for the reminder, for all of us who might have any old aerosol cans sitting around. 🥺
@Piper Yes, esp. when they have contents much worse than just shaving cream (which can take paint off of metal).

I had a sealed 12-oz Sprite soda can blow its top off in an overheated car that had been sitting parked in the sun.

Not much of a mess, fortunately; about 11 oz of the soda was still in the can.
That is impressive!
I often wonder about the rust on the bottom edge of cans, but have yet to ahve one burst.

You're lucky. Wait until that happens with a canister of mace 🤢
@TrumpIsFinallyGone Yes, I will definitely be checking all of the mace canisters I have around here!
Wow! Everything ok now?
@SomeMichGuy I still have to replace the light fixture.
@LeopoldBloom Wow. Well, that's a doable task.

Good luck & I wish you no more exploding cans!

Dodged a bullet.
What did you do leave it in the shower?
@Spoiledbrat No, it was on the counter by the sink. So over the years it got wet a few times.
Yikes ! I need to look around, because I’m sure there are old cans around here.

Damn, I would have loved to have seen that.
@Fukfacewillie I'm glad no one was in the room at the time.

I am sorry that happened.
