Gas-lighting and old habits
My apartment complex switched TV providers and on three separate days we were notified They Were Coming and to be sure we were either home or willing for them to enter unwatched.
The first day they didn’t show at all. The second day they showed up late and finished half. The third day was yesterday and they actually finished. The Xfinity guy got my TV working, handed me the remote and left. It was the first time in close to a decade my TV was on.
I just muted it and left the picture on.
This evening I was listening to an audio book on my headphones and - out of habit - glancing up at the TV screen.
I started to think I was watching - and listening to - the TV. But something was off. The sound and the picture had no common factors.
At last I realized what I was doing.
If I’m starting to gaslight myself, the future is bleak.
