Time. I don't respond to most messages because I can barely keep up with the people I already chat with. But when there were fewer and more time it depended on if I recognized their name or just a gut feeling.

Most folk post short, succinct responses to questions.
But the rare few can keep a conversation going asking questions along the way.
Must say i've had some killer random chats just from responding to a question.

Personally, I have never DM'ed anyone- but I tend to accept chats from people who I have had some sort of contact 1st on the public stream...That way I know somewhat how well they communicate.

After I've seen them in the neighborhood for a while and they are consistent in what they say all the time.⭐
