Considering it was expected to take 2h+, while it was instantaneous, I'm more prone to think they actually didn't manage to perform the upgrade, but had to roll-back to the previous (current) version of the site. So I'd expect another maintenance/upgrade warning soon. Like, the next days or the next weekend.
Just my opinion. I've some little experience with web-apps deployment (nothing as big as SW, of course); things don't go smooth all the time.
