Well, for two weeks I was away on another continent and should've stayed away ... but I just couldn't. My hotel each night had wifi, sometimes awful wifi, but I still managed to log on for a little bit each day.

Yeah I can. As long as I have something that occupies me fully, I can go away longer.
It's be tricky with some friends, I'd probably just find an alternate way to say hello to them briefly.

Yes. Left EP for six months. Survived fine though I missed my friends. I could do it again and far more easily now given the lack of content and the general atmosphere here...
