Well, that's the state of the art of American culture, which now finds it's expression on Social Media. Sure GK Chesterton could rigorously disagree and maintain an amicable relationship it seems those days are gone forever.
People post the most flaming ideas and then retreat into what the Roman Army called "Winter Quarters" The less brave generals sometimes sometimes went into WQs in July.

Ad hominem attacks and straw man arguments are liked by the posters posse, like sea lions at a carnival. Then the inevitable "I BLOCKED TheXYZ affair post.
It's been a slow train coming. When I mentioned GK Chesterton,my mind flashed to.. GB Trudeau who at various times was blocked by editors and people not of his demographic/outlook,or philosophy who tried Ye Olde Dan Quayle family values gambit.
The subversive satirist..had to be muzzled, and the comic page was heating up.
Berkley Breathed "Bloom County" suffered much the same treatment and Breathed created
a Sunday only strip Outlander.
He finally left the field, stating, that he felt that the United States was going to face "tough times", and that he wanted to end the saga of his most memorable character "on a lighter note",and that," he believed the atmosphere became too bitter for him to make quality cartoons"
In the last strip Donald Trump bought the strip liberating the characters!
You can't make this stuff up!

Hanks,Chaver..I meant to type that Chesterton could maintain an amicable relationship with his opposite number both ideologically and physically,
GB Shaw. Shaw Lean, ascetic,Chesterton stout and Columbo like..
If Shaw had Alfred Doolittle say:
MORALS,guv'nor..can't afford them Chesterton would have laughed and pointed out maybe an error or two in Shaw's premises. He also disliked Progressives. You really can't make this stuff up!
