I've lost two good friends here this week.

Another is silent. The atmosphere here is toxic. I still have many good connections here. I feel like leaving too. I refuse to go silently into that good night. Maybe instead of spreading discontent we should lift one another up in friendship. Share ideas and experiences. Be the light in somebody else's darkness.

Well, that's been my main attitude since the start. And the reason I waste no time blocking the toxic one. I won't leave. I like it here and I like the people I do interact with. See that little badge by my name. That is there because I am willing to pay for the privilege of blocking every troll or toxic person I run into. It's not a status symbol. It's just a convenience.

@Quoththeraven: it really isn't terribly expensive if you buy a year's membership at a time. Less than the cost of one Extra large coffee a month. Less than 10 cents a day. And for that we get 5000 blocks, 5000 mutes, and 1000 photos. I'm not rich, by any stretch of the imagination, but, I don't begrudge the ten cents a day to feel comfortable blocking the bad ones and muting the pesky ones, and, in case you haven't noticed, I love, love, love, posting pictures with my stories and some of my responses.
