Does sex sell?

So as the world gets older and society changes does the phrase sex sells still apply, so example in uk newspapers they used to have page three where a young Ladys would pose topless this has been got rid of as out of date in formula one the grid girls have been axed but sites like instagram, tik tok are just flooded with woman wearing next to nothing and loads of guys supplying comments, so should be stop trying to hide it and bring the lovely ladies back into the open again? And maybe these sites will lose the appeal in plain site is the better option

There’s a difference between appreciating beauty and normalising the public sexualisation of women. Social media is already proof that constantly exposing more doesn’t necessarily reduce the appeal; if anything, it can make it more addictive. Perhaps the answer isn’t to put everything on display, but to bring back a little modesty and dignity into public spaces

@Fertilization I mean, it's really only modesty that makes sex sell at all. It's forbidden fruit, nothing more. It's fun, but it's not fun enough to sell as is haha.

@Nightwings Haha, that’s giving modesty way too much credit. 😂. Sex sells because desire is human nature

@Fertilization You don't even know that what you're attracted to sexually is determined by other people lol. None of it is real. The little bit of real sexual desire that exists is nothing to talk about. You're all fooled. 😎

Natch- it wouldn't keep being used if it didn't. The main change the last two centuries have brought is the decline of religious puritanism and the rise of its secular counterpart. Pretty much "meet the new boss, same as the old boss, but angrier and somehow even more self-righteous".

The new idea seems to be that you can't simultaneously feel lust and respect for a given person, which... look, if that's true for you, you have deep-seated mental problems; it's emphatically NOT how healthy humans work. If you aren't seen as physically attractive, that's a pity- I can relate; I'm certainly not- then you find something else to allure people. The genetic lottery isn't fair, but that doesn't mean what it promotes is BAD; Harrison Bergeron was NOT an instruction manual.

Traditionally yes.

The current generation seems very inhibited and asexual so not sure it's still a thing.

Current generation seems to view sex as a tool of oppression or the purview of sexual predators.

They don't seem to have a healthy relationship with sex and gender relations.

I think sex will always attract attention, but society has changed. People should be free to express themselves, but there should also be respect and boundaries. Not everything that attracts attention is necessarily a good thing.
