@CurrentName I did too. I understand the wrongness of what he did to his friend to get it, but it even had a hold over him then. As someone who experiences intense love or longing I get how he lost himself in it and before he knew it "he" was gone. I was sad for the way people treated him and how he had to live and had become. A slave to the power of a relic men war over, when to him it was just something beautiful and precious to keep for himself. I understand why Frodo took pity on him... I might have done the same.
