Until this question I wasn't, but I do like how they figured out that society needed to have entertainment to thrive and not implode.
@Rokan They figured it out? Amphitheatres from earlier civilizations say no.
The Romans were a fake of older ones.

@Rokan because along with the history we know they prove that city states funded the entertainments that populations demanded way before Rome even in the Mediterranean region where Rome is, and everywhere else.
Why would you not know that? It's part of the classical tradition in ancient Greece and we still read the plays and historians.

@Roundandroundwego but did they know that the value of entertainment was so great to quell the people? this is a common thing taught about roman culture utilizing and recognizing.
@Rokan quell? Greeks developed a high culture with schools and universities, the "academy" was under acacia trees in Athens. They knew oral tradition, sports and theatre were education for the society and no distraction.
They were allowed pro social government to an extent that Americans would never permit.
It's important to today's know nothing mainstream to confabulate a fake past.
