Seriously what is the point of these AI profiles?

Seems like everyone has noticed that some of the profiles on here are AI generated. Usually their profile pics are unrealistically glamorous and glossy; if you try to interact with them you soon find the answers make no sense. So these are extremely primitive programs; not only do they not meet the standards of a chatGPT, they are less convincing than your average customer service chatbot. So who is behind them and what is the point of them?

Hey. If you find those profiles here on SW, please use the Report button to report them. We detect a lot of those automatically, and block them straight away, but sometimes they are able to bypass our filters. So, reporting them to us is the best you can do. Thanks!
@Nuno okay. Do you admins have any information about where these profiles come from??
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@ThePatientAnarchist It would be wiser for them not to reveal that. The less the AI-generators know about what we and the site's administrators know, the better.

@ArishMell "We". What expertise do you have on the topic, then?
Lostpoet · M
Although I fit this criteria I assure you that I am real.

I don't know why someone would go to the effort to try to scam anyone on here it's not like any of us has money or anything.
being · 36-40, F
Would you point me to one and let me see what I think of them?
@being you cannot always be certain, but look for female profiles that have little to say beyond "hello 💋" and see if they would pass a Turing test.
@being click on the 'more people' button and scroll down to the very bottom, there is about 5 sw ai bots like 'Nova' and Co.

@being They pop up frequently.
Here's one that may not be AI but it is a faker none-the-less.

The bizarre mixed messaging dynamic at play here is that SW on the on hand seeks to take down these fake profiles, but on the other hand promotes their own official AI profiles (Luna, Duke, etc.) ... while at the same time regular (and ostensibly human) SW users will support anti-AI posts like this one, yet their own profiles are themselves littered with AI-generated images and/or they make it known that they support politicians who are doing everything they can to keep AI unregulated (in spite of the fact that AI is killing the environment and the energy grid*) and, simultaneously, to stifle a renewable energy sector that was working just fine and was bringing down energy prices.

It's a daily contradiction.
