Do you always initiate or say hello to your SW friends in DM, or wait till they say it?

I am not sure what the rule is here.
Do you always initiate a conversation with your friends on here?If you see them online or do you just wait sometime for them to say hello?

If feel like saying hello to anybody, I just do it.
Don't talk to my friends every single day here -we're still friends we've been friends for over 20 years .
