In any market, a few people who got in on the ground level get rich, then suddenly everyone wants to try. The market soon saturates, then most end up selling out or going under.

Your analysis makes so much sense. Maybe it means that this trend will burn out soon.
I do feel like the surge in online sex work, which is starting to crop up here, comes from negative changes in society. Not just a breakdown of "old-fashioned" morals, but a loss of basic self-respect on the part of young women.
(Of course there are also the many catfish, who probably have great self-respect but a sociopathic lack of respect for others!)

@HoeBag TBH, I think a lot of men who pay for things like OnlyFans honestly do like the personality element.
For a long time, the highest paid model on OnlyFans was Belle Delphine. She's attractive, but she's not super hot, nowhere near what you'd expect for being a top-earner. But Belle Delphine is really funny and creative, she was a master troll who became mega popular for pranks and cosplays before she even posed nude.

It's kinda beautiful, right? Guys won't just spend money on any sex worker, they like a sex worker with personality. Am I looking too deep into this?

To me it is sad that she has ended up posing nude. Why not just continue to be snarky and fun? There is a "pornification" of what is expected of women who want to continue to be popular and rich.

@HoeBag I have tried one of the AI virtual lover programs. It can certainly generate hot images and sexy dialogue. But to me the fact that it is not actually a real person makes it much less exciting. On this I think [@BohemianBabe] is onto something.

@BohoBabe Ya know what, I do think it is problematic regardless, if only because the porn industry is not mostly like that, and women who claim they really enjoy it and are into it for their own pleasure have the effect of legitimizing the whole sordid thing.
In any case I really dislike this widespread thing of using "sex-positive" to mean "in favour of porn". Being positive about sex does not have to mean being cool with porn, any more than being a foodie has to mean you support eating veal.

@ThePatientAnarchist Well an industry can be corrupt and exploitative, while the product it's making isn't harmful. That's something that's good about internet porn sites, it gives the power to the people choosing to do porn. There's no contracts or exploitation, at least not in all of them.
