I work for a tech company with literally hundreds of devs and they still run into issues with special characters. I've spent way too much of my life mapping the damn things.

@GoldenWorm: If you have issues with special characters, simply whitelist the ones you think users need and call it a day. Why allow special characters at all? And what the OP has are not even "special" characters.
