Does your alt still have a 'new' tag? Perhaps private isn't allowed for brand new accounts.

@NudasPriest It would, since I made the account today.
I don't see a reason for it but that's probably why... which sucks, because one of the things I made the account for was to have posts only for people I follow and now I guess I have to wait an unknown amount of time until I'm allowed to do that.... for no reason.
